Longmont’s largest summer festival is this Friday!

On Friday, August 28, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. the streets of Longmont will be alive with the sounds of festival. Put on by the Longmont Downtown Development Authority, the Festival on Main is going into its ninth year, and this party is going to be bigger and better than ever. The festival is held on Main Street, between 3rd Street and Longs Peak Avenue, and the entire length of roadway is shut down for the event.

Raising Cain

This year’s main stage musical lineup includes Loveland jam band Past Due, starting at 6 p.m., followed by headliner Raising Cain at 8 p.m. The Colorado band, Raising Cain, plays covers of popular songs including classics, modern rock, ballads, country, swing, Motown, oldies and jazz standards. Be sure to bring your dancing shoes, as this band is sure to get the crowd moving.

There is also a showcase of local talent at the Longmont Idol competition being held in the 300 block of Main Street. The contest will be in its second week and the competition is tough. There will also be street jugglers, fire eaters, stilt walkers, a miniature train ride, a 14-foot bubble making machine, an obstacle course and much more. The festival includes an array of food choices, from Mexican to Greek, and many local restaurants will be providing delicious options to satisfy the entire family’s tastes.

The Longmont Small Business Association will be hosting a small-business expo in conjunction with the festival. Participating businesses will display their wares and services in booths at the event. The Longmont Humane Society will be present, hosting a Meet & Greet of their dogs in need of good homes.

There’s a little something for everyone at this year’s Festival on Main, so bring the entire family and do a little face painting, take a ride in an electric vehicle, watch gymnasts and dancer, as well as martial artist perform, do some dancing yourself, or just people watch.
