Where to watch World Cup in Northern Colorado

STOP! Looking for information on World Cup 2014?   Click Where to World Cup in Colorado.

As soccer fans know, this year’s FIFA World Cup is being held in South Africa, a country a few time zones ahead of the United State. See www.24timezones.com for time zone info. This means, here in the Rockies, some of the World Cup matches are being played as early as 5:30 a.m. (although most are being played between 8 a.m. and  12 p.m.  MST).

This past weekend I read an article in the Denver Post about where to watch early World Cup matches in the Mile High City.   Read the article here.

After reading that article, I wondered if any Northern Colorado bars planned to be open early for World Cup. After calling dozens and dozens of bars in Fort Collins, Loveland, Windsor and Greeley, this is what I’ve discovered.

Just to be sure they kept their word to the Mayor of HeidiTown. I recommend calling ahead before heading out to catch an early morning match at any of these locations.

Stonehouse Grille, 125 S. College, Fort Collins, CO  –  I’m a big fan of the Stonehouse (see review here). This is where my husband and I watched a lot of World Cup matches in 2006. This bar & grill   plans to open at 7:30 a.m. or 8 a.m. during this year’s World Cup. www.stonehousegrille.com

CB & Potts Restaurant & Brewery, 1415 W. Elizabeth Fort Collins, CO  –  This restaurant hosts the official viewing parties for Colorado Rapids. This soccer-friendly place plans to open at 8 a.m. during the entire World Cup. www.cbpotts.com

Jackson’s Sports Grill,925 Harmony Road Fort Collins, CO  – You can always count on Jackson’s to be there for all your sports needs. They plan to be open at 8 a.m. during World Cup and will be offering a breakfast menu. www.jacksonsallamerican.com

Kress Cinema & Lounge, 817 8th Ave., Greeley, CO – This establishments plans to show the Mexico v. France match on 6/17 at 12:30 p.m.   Free admission!   www.kresscinema.com

The following bars gave me a “maybe” response:

Old Chicago,   Ft. Collin’s Old Town location  –  This bar plans to be open “upon request” during World Cup. If there’s a match you are dying to see, and want to work on your World Beer Tour at the same time, give Old C’s a call and they just might open specially for you. www.oldchicago.com

Buffalo Wild Wings, Fort Collins  location –  “Playing it by ear.” If they get a lot of calls about World Cup, they will open early. www.buffalowildwings.com

Avogadro’s Number, Fort Collins –  Apparently lots of soccer fans work here, but they are leaving it up to the bartender as to whether he/she wants to open early on each day during World Cup. Call ahead if you’re interested in watching an early match here. www.avogadros.com

Road 34, Fort Collins  –  As of the posting of this article, they still hadn’t decided whether they were going to open early during World Cup, but were leaning towards opening early, so call ahead. www.road34.com   UPDATE: Road 34 has been opening for all World Cup matches.

So there you have it! I’m  sure I’ve  missed a bar here and there, so if you know a restaurant/bar that intends to open early during World Cup, please leave me a comment so I can add them to the list.

World Cup starts this Friday, June 11, and runs through July 11, 2010. Thank you to a Heidi Town reader, Rodger Bailey, for sending me the link to this comprehensive World Cup calendar. Click here to check it out!

  2. Glad I could help Chris! Last World Cup we went down to Denver because no one was open early here in NOCO, but this year things are different.

So happy to see people getting excited about soccer. I think it will go a long way to helping out MLS. 🙂

  4. GO USA! Even though not a win, I’ll take the draw today! Read about Stonehouse Grill on your blog and it reminded me of a recent article in the “Scene” regarding the SG soon changing to a Hawaiian themed restaurant. Not too sure how I feel about that, but GO TEAM USA anyhow!

  7. Yeah! So glad I could help out Liddy!

I think we’ll be a Stonehouse again this week. Went there for Friday’s match and the breakfast burritos were outstanding and they have tons of televisions both at the upstairs and downstairs bar. 🙂

    Go USA!!!

  8. To bad USA is out. Think the bars will still get the crowds for any other matches? What place will be the best for the international match ups? Such as Argentina or Spain…
