Downtown Loveland, Colorado will be filled with the mouthwatering smell of barbecue this weekend. It’s the fourth annual Loveland Loves Barbecue cook-off, and whether you’re a fan of pulled pork or barbecued turkey legs, there’s a little something to suit everyone’s taste buds at this two-day celebration of outdoor cooking.

Loveland Loves Barbecue attracts enthusiasts from far and wide. We have friends from Denver who diligently make the trip each and every year. Barbecue cooks also come from afar to compete in this Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned barbecue competition. There’s over $13,000 in prize money for barbecue cooks at this event.

First and foremost this is an eating event – vegetarians need not apply. Participants may gorge themselves on sample after sample of various types of barbecue. The weekend is free, but if you want to taste samples you must buy tokens. There’s also beer available for washing down all that barbecue goodness.

Loveland Loves Barbecue runs Friday, July 9, from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday, July 10, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the southwest corner of Cleveland and 5th Street in historic downtown Loveland.

HeidiTown Tip: Wear your sunscreen and expect a crowd. This event grows bigger every year.
