What to do & where to do it, this weekend in Colorado (September 25-26, 2010)

As most of my loyal readers know HeidiTown is not a calendar of events. It is impossible for me to preview every event going on in Northern Colorado (let alone state wide). If only I could clone myself!

I’ve decided to compile a list, every Friday morning, of all the  upcoming weekend events I was unable to preview, but would have liked to preview.

Fall in Colorado is fabulous and this weekend is no exception with temps in the low eighties both Saturday and Sunday. So without further ado, here’s a list of some of the awesome activities going on this first weekend of fall, September 25-26, 2010.

Estes Park, CO – Autumn Gold, a festival of bands, brats and beer

Saturday & Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Bond Park

What: Celebrate fall surrounded by golden aspens and bugling elk. The 18th Annual Autumn Gold festival is sponsored by the Estes Valley Sunrise Rotary. Come out and enjoy good food, good music and excellent beer. The event is free, but be sure to participate in the $5,000 reverse raffle, benefiting local youth scholarships.

Boulder, CO – Fall Fest

Friday from 5 p.m. to 10, Sat. 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. & Sun. 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

What: The Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder is the picturesque venue for this huge fall festival featuring music, vendors, food, beer, a children’s carnival and much more. This event is free. For the entire lineup, visit BoulderDowntown.com.

Paonia, CO – Mountain Harvest Festival

Thursday, Sept. 23 to Sunday, Sept. 26

What: This small town festival on the Western Slope is already in full swing. There is  music, workshops, a drum and bike parade and contests galore, including a pie contest. If you are looking for a true slice of Americana, Paonia, Colorado is the place to be this weekend. Visit MountainHarvestFestival.com for a full line up of this free event.

Morrison, CO – Ciderfest 2010

Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

What: From cider making to hay rides, this is a free  festival for the family. Just a few minutes west of Denver, Morrison is an adorable little town (and the gateway to Red Rocks Amphitheater). If you go, be sure to bring apples and empty beverage containers. For more information, click here.

Lafayette, CO – Celebrate Lafayette

Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

What: This community celebration has been occurring annually since 1956. This celebration features all things essential to a small town festival, including a pancake breakfast, parade, street fair, entertainment and kids’ activities. To learn more visit LafayetteColorado.com.

Denver, CO – World’s Largest Ukulele Lesson

Saturday from 1-1:45 p.m. at Ruby Hill Park.

What: Swallow Hill Music is hosting this lesson during Fourish!, Denver Urban Garden’s 25th Anniversary celebration. This random event caught my eye because not only is it unique, but I actually own a ukulele. Learn more about the lesson and Flourish! at SwallowHillMusic.org.

Oktoberfests – have you been practicing your chicken dance? Click on the links below for more info on each festival.

Greeley Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest Denver

Oktoberfest at Mile High Marketplace

Note from the Mayor:   Look, I know there’s a lot more stuff going on around Colorado this weekend, but I can’t preview everything.   If you’d like to add your event to this post, please leave me a comment!

  1. I know, right? The only unfortunate part is that I think they are making regular cider, not the real good stuff. LOL! 🙂
