A stay at Colorado’s only tiny home hotel

Ryan and I have been intrigued by the tiny home movement for many years. It stems from Ryan’s ability as a master craftsman to build one himself, after all, he could build one in his shop.

Several weeks ago, we had the opportunity to stay at WeeCasa, a tiny home hotel in Lyons, Colorado.

Tiny homes are defined as houses under 400 square feet (some folks say under 600), and the “tiny house movement” is a description of the architectural and social movement that advocates living simply in small homes.

While living simply interests me to a degree, I’m more fascinated with the mobility of tiny homes and their small price tag when compared to standard home prices in Colorado.

Each of WeeCasa’s 17 tiny homes can be rented as “hotel rooms” per night or longer, and each is uniquely designed. If like us, you’ve ever wondered about owning a tiny home, you’ll definitely want to experience a stay at WeeCasa. However, you don’t need to be a tiny home lover to utilize this place.

It’s rather perfect that WeeCasa is located in Lyons, Colorado, a tiny town with big offerings, much like their new tiny home hotel.

Lyons is a wonderful Colorado weekend getaway. It’s surprisingly close to Denver metro, about one hour, but it feels like it’s one hundred miles away from everyday life. A charming, slow-paced town, it offers an array of outdoor activities such as kayaking and mountain biking, and it’s less than 40 minutes to Rocky Mountain National Park.

We stayed in tiny house #4. It is 170 square feet on the main level which features a full bathroom, living area, kitchen and a 70 square foot sleeping loft. It was built by Sprout Tiny Homes out of La Junta, Colorado. This tiny home was bright and cheery, and yes, it is quite small.

We really loved this loft bedroom. It was cozy and the bed was ultra-comfy!

I think the key to tiny home living is that the tiny home is located in an area conducive to being outdoors a lot, and Lyons is a wonderful place for outdoor living, especially in the summer.

In addition to their tiny homes, that come in all shapes and sizes, WeeCasa is located on the banks of the St. Vrain River, giving guests access to all the river has to offer. Plus, there’s a fire pit and outdoor games on the property.

We just spent one night in #4 and didn’t cook any of our meals in the home, although it had a well-appointed little kitchen. Lyons has several great eateries and one of my favorite markets, the St. Vrain Market & Deli. If I’m anywhere near Lyons, I stop here and buy fresh bread. They also make killer deli sandwiches.

We had dinner at Lyons Fork (kinda pricey, but the burgers are reasonable and delicious) and for breakfast, we ate at The Stone Cup, a fantastic coffee shop with a great menu.

The best part? All of these places are within an easy walk of WeeCasa. The property’s location means you can park your car and forget about it.

Our stay at WeeCasa only fueled our interest in tiny homes, but I would recommend a stay here to anyone, whether they are interested in the tiny home movement or just looking for the ideal place to stay while hiking and biking the area.

Rates at WeeCasa start at $139, but book your tiny home quick – this place is generating a lot of media attention and they’ve already sold a lot of nights this summer.
