Movie Review: "Slumdog Millionaire"

Rated R Heidi’s Illustrious Rating: 4 Word of Warning: Scenes of tragic poverty and violence.   This movie is now playing at Lyric Cinema Café on Mountain Avenue in Fort Collins. Englishman Danny Boyle directed this Golden Globe Best Picture winner. “Slumdog Millionaire” has also been nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Picture category, along with receiving nine other nominations in various categories. Tis the season for film

With award season just around the corner, movies are hitting theaters fast and furious – and so am I.     Frankly, I couldn’t be happier about it. Finally, there are some great movies being released! Because of the amount of movies needing to be reviewed, some of my reviews will be a bit on the short side so that I can review two at a time for  the  newpaper

Academy Awards are this Sunday

The 80th Academy Awards will be held this Sunday, February 24th and if you’re like me, you’ll be glued to your television from red carpet coverage to Best Picture announcement.   I have always been addicted to the Oscars.   I enjoy watching all the pretty-people in their Oscar-best, telling stupid little anecdotes about how hard it was to pick out just the right dress.   Like we all believe

An odd French film about the life of Elle Magazine  editor Jean-Dominique Bauby after a stroke leaves his entire body paralyzed. A New Favorite - Author Dennis Lehane

Another author I’ve recently discovered is Dennis Lehane. He wrote the book Mystic River, adapted for the screen and directed by Clint Eastwood. The movie earned several Academy Award nominations including best picture; Sean Penn  won in  the Best Actor category and  Tim Robbins winning the  Best Supporting Actor.  Mystic River may  have won more categories, but  in 2003, the last Lord of  the Rings installment was released and Rings
