Crossed Wires

Sometimes it feels like technology is speeding along like a run away train, but then I have a conversation like this and I realize we aren’t all on board. This morning I called a local restaurant in a small Northern Colorado town to inquire as to whether they have wireless. Telephone Conversation: Me:   “Do you have wireless?” Them:   “Um… this is a restaurant.” Me:   “Yes, I know,

Lighthouse Cafe, Berthoud, Colorado

If you give me the choice between a banana split and a plate of fries, I’ll take the fries every time. I love French fries. I know it is not  the most healthy food choice, but when consumed in moderation they make me insanely happy, especially the fries from Light House Café in Berthoud, Colorado. I’ve been going to Light House Cafe for as long as I’ve been writing at

HeidiTown Rant: Serving breakfast, open at 8 a.m.?

I have a major complaint. If a restaurant wants to get in on breakfast service they need to open at least by 7 a.m., maybe earlier. Most people work. Yep, it’s true. And most working people need to be at work by 8 a.m. My husband and I love going out for breakfast on a weekday, especially a Monday. We are business owners, so it gives us some time to

Monroe's Lounge Bar in Loveland, Colorado

I discovered Monroe’s Lounge this past summer when I was invited to attend a Friday night networking group for people on Twitter.com. My husband and I were quite surprised when we found the place to be much more than just a hotel bar. Located inside the newly remodeled Best Western on the southwest corner of I25 and Eisenhower (Hwy 34), Monroe’s is a classy bar ideally located for networking groups

The Mayor lunches at Young's Cafe (Fort Collins, Colorado)

One day before we celebrate the passing of Saint Patrick by drinking lots of green beer, the Mayor got a craving for Asian food. To quench this hunger I had lunch today at Young’s Café in Fort Collins, Colorado.   Apparently I am the only Northern Coloradoan not to have eaten at Young’s Café. The restaurant has been in open since 1987, and has been voted “Best Oriental Food” of

Mad about Mandolin Cafe

I recently discovered Mandolin Cafe  at 210 East 4th Street in Loveland, Colorado.   This relatively new addition to downtown, is a funky coffee shop  with a musical soul. Last Thursday evening,  Stoll Vaughan, a singer/songwriter and stellar guitarist  played a free show  at Mandolin Cafe. Vaughan had approached owner Alex Zoll about playing at the  coffee shop  after Vaughan opened for The Elders at The Rialto Theater in Loveland,

Rogue Ales with Mom (and Mom)

Rogue Ales in Newport, Oregon is a good time, if you can find it. Tucked under the bridge, yes, this bridge”¦ Rogue Ales is a great place to grab lunch and indulge in one of their many craft beers. You can also tour the brewery. After spending a couple hours at the Oregon Coast Aquarium, it was just what my mom and I needed. The aquarium is a beautiful facility,

Pourhouse opens in Loveland

Review originally published on August 20, 2009.   Downtown Loveland has a new restaurant at 124 E. 4th Street. The former Cipoletti’s  restaurant is now the PourhouseBar & Grill.    Pourhouse opened  yesterday, and I was there to check it out.   The first noticeable difference is the outside of the building – it has been painted black. The inside has been altered only slightly.   Walls have been removed

All draft beers $1 - every day at Sanford's Grub & Pub

What is going on at Sanford’s Grub & Pub?  Last night we  visit their Ft. Collins, Colorado  location at 1526 Oakridge Drive (just south of Harmony Road). This is a favorite spot to meet up with friends from Ft. Collins because the food is well-priced and they have a good happy hour (1/2 price drinks & appetizers).   We arrived to find a sign over the bar declaring $1 draft
