It’s the first Monday of the month and that means it’s time to introduce the recipient of HeidiTown Gives Back. Each month a different Colorado-based charity is picked to receive free ad space on HeidiTown.com and a blog post about their organization.
I chose Disabled Resource Service (DRS) this month because their biggest event of the year is on March 22, 2013, and I wanted to help them spread the word.
Because of DRS’ huge wine fest held annually in Fort Collins, they’ve been on my radar for a number of years. The organization helps people with all types of disabilities how live in Larimer and Jackson counties. The goal of DRS is for people with disabilities to achieve maximum independence.
Annually, nearly 6000 people benefit from their services.
DRS delivers four core services: individual and systems advocacy, independent living skills training, peer support, and information and referral. There’s a very good description of what DRS does HERE at GivingFirst.org. While DRS’s website is currently under construction, this gives a very good overview of their organization.
On Friday, March 22, DRS will host Northern Colorado’s largest wine event and the organization’s biggest fundraiser of the year. The 31st Annual Wine Fest will feature more than 500 wines from 150 wineries, alongside tasty foods such as oysters on the half shell, cheese, breads, meat and pasta selections and more. There will also be beer from the regions three largest breweries.
The event is being held at The Hilton Fort Collins and live entertainment includes music, auctions, black jack tables and more. There is an array of ticket combinations, including a VIP package, general admission and private wine and private beer tastings. What better way to support a deserving charity than drinking wine and eating delicious food?
