Featured Festival: Loveland Oktoberfest (Sept. 21, 2013)

Loveland Oktoberfest 2013

PLEASE NOTE, COLORADO FLOODING HAS LED TO SOME CHANGES AT THE LOVELAND OKTOBERFEST:  The festival will be moving from Foote Lagoon in downtown Loveland to the parking lot in front of Grimm Brothers Brewhouse & Tap Room, located at 623 Denver Ave. Loveland, Colorado 80537. In addition, the event will now be held on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. only.

This year marks the first official Loveland Oktoberfest. It has grown from a parking lot party at Grimm Brothers Brewhouse to a full-fledged event.   And if you like beer then the Loveland Oktoberfest is for you. This is a two-day party with beer at the center and Oktoberfest as the impetus.

Loveland has a great downtown location for events. The Foote Lagoon is an artificial lagoon with a “floating” stage. There is stadium style seating as well as grass for lounging. Since this is Loveland, a town that’s internationally known for its art scene, guests are surrounded by sculpture.

Loveland Oktoberfest will take place in this beautiful setting and will feature beer, beer and more beer. Loveland has experienced an explosion of new microbreweries in the past handful of years. Grimm Brothers was the first brewery, but was quickly followed by four more.

This fest will featured no less than nine microbrewery beers, including, but perhaps not limited to, Grimm Brothers, Verboten, Loveland Aleworks, Big Beaver, O’Dell Brewing, Great Divide, Breckenridge Brewery, Epic Brewing and Rock Bottom.

In addition to all the beer, there will be music (band pending) and a children’s area. Kids will have an opportunity to make pretzel necklaces and enter a coloring contest. Food vendors are still signing up, and so far include several barbeque options, a hot dog and sausage vendor, pretzels, Italian ice, lemonade and popcorn.

For those competitive types, there will be a stein hoisting contest and a hot dog eating contest. Keep an eye on Loveland Oktoberfest’s Facebook page for more information.

The event is seeking volunteers, and so if you’d like to help out, sign up here.

A portion of the proceeds from the festival will benefit Northern Colorado nonprofits Colorado Youth Outdoors and Team STABOS.
