Yep, it’s that time of year again, Ullr Festival is almost here. This crazy event takes place for an entire week (January 5-11, 2014). We attended for the first time last year, when I was asked to be a judge of the Ullr Festival Parade. I’m judging again this year and I can’t wait.

Ryan and I loved every minute of Ullr Festival and we made friends everywhere we went – in bars, in hot tubs and on the slopes. We bought Ullr a beer at The Gold Pan Saloon, and we got free beer for ourselves just by raise our hands at Downstairs at Eric’s.
People are in an especially good mood during Ullr Festival. It attracts a lot of college kids from all over the country on winter break. We ran into a lot of friendly students from Texas, Michigan and a group of awesome ladies from New England who participated in the Ullympics – Kate Franklin, et al. I totally remember the team in pink and wish my photos of your Ullympics group ski race had turned out better.

The parade, which always occurs on Thursday evening, is the highlight of Ullr Festival. Last year, around 70 floats participated and folks go all out. From belly dancers to dog sled teams, this parade is one-of-a-kind. It was difficult to judge because there were so many top-notch and creative floats.

Right before the parade, Breckenridge Distillery, along with 192 helpful drinkers, broke the record for the World’s longest shotski, measuring 313 feet. This year they plan to break their own record and you can SIGN UP HERE to be part of history.
In addition to bar hopping and taking a break to go zip lining with Top of the Rockies, we ate delicious pizza at Fatty’s (twice), a scrumptious lunch at Breckenridge Distillery, had spicy green chili slope side at Maggie’s, and of course, breakfast at our longtime favorite Breckenridge stop, the Blue Moose (still cash only).
Next week we are looking forward to adding Comedy Night (featuring Heath Hyche and Deacon Gray) at Riverwalk Center on Friday evening, to our Ullr agenda.
