Win tickets to the Oscar Party at The Kress

Here’s a little HeidiTown trivia for newer citizens. Back in 2007, when the town was incorporated, I wrote reviews. I reviewed books, restaurants and movies. I continue to write the occasional film review for the Berthoud Weekly Surveyor where I”ve been a contributing writer since 2006.

I love the movies. They represent a chance to escape from life and live somewhere else for a couple of hours. This year’s 86th Annual Academy Awards has an interesting lineup of Best Picture nominees. These films take us to various time periods including the 1800s, the 1970s and the 1980s, and this year, they even take us to space.

I was not a fan of expanding the Best Picture nominee list to 10, in part because it makes it more difficult to see all the nominated films. This year I’ve managed to see six of the 10.

The nominated films include American Hustle, Captain Philips, Dallas Buyers Club, Gravity, Her, Nebraska, Philomena, 12 Years of Slave and the Wolf of Wall Street. The movies in bold are the ones I’ve managed to see.

I’d like to see American Hustle win for best director and Nebraska win for Best Picture, although I’m fairly sure Scorsese’s soft porn flick, Wolf of Wall Street will take home the Oscar this year.

Now, here’s your chance to win a pair of tickets to the Oscar Party at The Kress. I’ve attended this shindig in the past and it’s a delightful evening.

The Kress Cinema & Lounge in Greeley, CO. Photo by Matthew Gale. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 2nd.  Your $20/person ticket includes an appetizer buffet, a red carpet entrance (complete with paparazzi), an Oscar Ballot Cash prize and the Academy Awards on The Kress’ big screen. Guests are encouraged to dress up in their Oscar best.

If you’d like to be entered to win tickets to this suave affair in Greeley, leave a comment telling me 1) which best picture nominee you’re rooting for, or, if you haven’t seen them, 2) your favorite all time movie.

A winner will be picked at random on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 9 p.m., and will attend the Oscar Party on the 2nd of March. I will be there too, so I hope to meet the winner in person.

  5. My choice would be 12 Years A Slave. Such an intense film. Painful yet just stunning in its overall execution. And of course phenomenal performances by Michael Fassbender, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Lupita Nyong’o. Though Wolf of Wall Street is definitely a close runner-up

My favorite all time movie would have to be Heathers, just too funny!

  7. Yikes! Kind of embarrassed to say I haven’t seen any of them because life has been too hectic lately. Soooo, my favorite movie…a diametrically-opposed tie between The Matrix and Amelie!
