Girlfriend Getaway in the Colorado Rocky Mountains

I get asked year round for advice on where to go on a girlfriend getaway in Colorado and I usually respond with, “It depends.” It depends on the type of women in your party; is your group filled with outdoor enthusiasts or would they rather shop till they drop? Or perhaps they want to do a bit of both?

Here are some of my suggestions for a Colorado girls getaway this summer that will make everyone happy and provide beautiful backdrops for adorable selfies.

Shopping girls trip

Steamboat Springs is one of my favorite mountain shopping towns. With a variety of shops and galleries and F.M. Light & Sons, one of the West’s most famous western wear boutiques, shopping in Steamboat is a real Colorado kind of affair.

If all that shopping makes you thirsty and hungry, check out Laundry Kitchen & Cocktails for the perfect happy hour.

From hot springs to hiking to shopping, Steamboat Springs make a great girls getaway destination.

Winter Park, Colorado has been my go-to spot for girls trips for the past couple of summers, in part because it’s a kick-ass summer festival town.

There’s a fun shopping area called Cooper Creek Square where we discovered an awesome consignment store and Peezie Marie where I picked up a fun pair of sunnies.

For tacos and fancy margaritas, hit Pepe Osaka’s Fish Tacos. Their strawberry/cucumber margaritas are the best.

For an outdoor adventure head to Winter Park Resort and ride the chairlift to the top of the mountains. You can’t go wrong with a great chairlift selfie.

Outdoor girls trip

If you’re looking for an outdoorsy adventure with your girlfriends, check out Ouray, Colorado. Spent the morning hiking the Ouray Perimeter Trail and the afternoon soaking at the Ouray Hot Springs Pool.

Stay at the Ouray Chalet for a central and affordable in-town location. If you are looking for an affordable girls getaway in Colorado, check out their economy rooms.

Yurts provide an opportunity to get into nature without having to pack or put up your own tent. Yurts are scattered across Colorado from Snow Mountain Ranch to the backcountry yurts run by Never Summer Nordic. For outdoor girls, a yurt trip just might be the perfect Colorado girlfriend getaway.

Farm loving girls trip

If you and your girlfriends want to cuddle with some farm animals during your weekend excursion, look no further than Mountain Goat Lodge in Salida. In addition to goats, this bed and breakfast with lodge room and retro campers, hosts yoga retreats.Goats and yoga – what could be better?

Gaia’s Farm & Gardens in LaPorte, Colorado just 15 minutes outside of Fort Collins, offers a charming bohemian bungalow for guests to rent. Gab the night away in the bungalow’s hot tub and enjoy communing with the farm’s many animals during your stay.

  1. I always love reading your articles, can’t wait to try some of these locations. I have been “shopping” at Steamboat Springs (last fall). You are so right. I spent an entire afternoon wandering. Great TIME!

    1. Thank you, Gail!

And yes, shopping in the Boat is great. So many interesting shops and galleries. On our last trip I found this HUGE wildflower painting that i wanted, but alas, neither my walls nor my pocketbook were big enough to accommodate this desire. 🙂

  2. Yurts! Yeah. Thinking that for the trip in next spring. Thanks for yet more places to visit. I’m never going to be home soon.

    1. We’re staying in the yurts at Snow Mountain Ranch this summer. I can’t wait! So far we’ve only experienced a winter yurt trip, which was totally awesome.

Thanks for stopping by HeidiTown today, Dawn!

  3. Great article Heidi! Thanks for mentioning the Mountain Goat Lodge – we always have so much fun here, and love hosting girlfriends weekends. It’s fun to rent all four campers out to a group of friends, and they can soak in the hottub under the stars, have a cookout around our fire pit, milk a goat, play with a baby goat, and meet our new grey goose Elsie!

  4. Love your story Heidi! And the fact that you called Winter Park a “kick-ass summer festival town”!!! You tell it like it is! Know you think our Beer Fest is one of the best in the state (if not THE best), so come back for the Uncorked Wine Fest (or any other fest for that matter) this year. You’re always a pleasure to hang out with!
