One of the perks of being in my line of work is that occasionally I am invited to check out a new place. I don’t always accept these invites, but when The Wild Game in Longmont asked if I’d be willing to check them out on the house, I knew Ryan would be disappointed if I turned them down – the guy loves games.
The second The Wild Game opened recently in Longmont on Ken Pratt Boulevard. The first is located in Evergreen, Colorado.
While we enjoy entertainment centers such as this one, they are often filled with children and there’s no place for adults to escape. After munching on awesome happy hour pretzels at The Wild Game’s downstairs bar, we headed to The Loft, the 21 and older second-floor bar. We sipped beer and I crushed Ryan at shuffleboard. The Loft also features pool, darts and a patio for sunset watching.
Back downstairs, we skipped bowling (my carpal tunnel doesn’t allow me to play anymore) and decided to have some dinner. Wild boar mac and cheese for Ryan and, on the recommendation of our bartender, I got the Mesa burger.
I can honestly say that we were pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. The biggest surprise was that they managed to cook a medium burger which happens about one out of ten times (my burger usually arrive well-done no matter how I ordered it). They seem to care a lot about providing customers with above average food and so far, they are hitting the mark.
Longmont is a beer town and The Wild Game delivers when it comes to serving up local craft beer. They have more than two dozen taps of Colorado microbrews; everything from Funkworks’ Tropic King Saison to several beers from Longmont-based Wibby Brewing.
After dinner, we played bocce ball (this has to be the only place in Colorado with indoor bocce ball). Ryan beat me badly, so we were even.
In addition to the arcade, bowling, ping pong and bar games, The Wild Game has meeting rooms and it’s a live music venue. Bands are booked every Saturday night.
I enjoyed The Wild Game and think it’s a fun addition to the Longmont entertainment scene. It has a cool, Colorado vibe and isn’t just for kids. We’ll definitely come back and next time we’ll bring friends, after all, I need a little shuffleboard competition.
Thank you to The Wild Game for providing us with a gift card to cover all of our expenses on this outing.
