A Staycation at Hilton Denver Inverness in the Denver Tech Center

Why would one staycation at the Denver Tech Center? Hilton Denver Inverness, that’s why. This resort hotel has everything you need for the perfect getaway and you’ll never need to leave the building unless of course, you want to golf their pristine, 18-hole park-like course.

This is part two of my three-part series on great staycation resort hotels around Colorado’s Front Range, and Hilton Denver Inverness, formerly The Inverness, is indeed a truly great staycation spot south of Denver.

Hilton Denver Inverness is undergoing a multi-phase remodel and the new contemporary look and feel of the place suit my tastes perfectly. It also suits the architecture of the hotel which was built by a Scandinavian hotel company in 1989.

The hotel has recently become a Hilton and has some of the small touches one comes to expect from that brand. Personally, I’m a big fan of Hilton Hotels’ bathroom products. Sometimes it’s the little things, and when you travel a lot the little things matter a lot.

My beautifully remodeled room had what I assume was a gorgeous view of the resort’s golf course, alas, a spring snowstorm kept the view veiled throughout my one-night stay.

My view. Still pretty in an artistic kind of way.

After catching up on emails and social media, I headed downstairs to find a good happy hour at one of the hotel’s several bars. The Spotted Dog, on the lower level, fit the bill. The Spotted Dog has a pub-like feel with darts and other bar games available to play for free, a large fireplace and dog-inspired art adorning the walls. I liked it even before I discovered the $4 happy hour wine.

Popular with hotel guests and locals, The Spotted Dog has a full menu, feels a million miles away from DTC and doesn’t feel a bit like a hotel restaurant/bar. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it pulls in a good amount of locals who work or live in the area.

It’s the same at the resort’s Fireside Bar & Grill, where I enjoyed an appetizer and a martini while chatting with locals who are regulars at this bar and grill since moving to Denver a year ago.

The words bar and grill may make evoke images of fries and hamburgers, but their menu is contemporary and gourmet, offering an array of culinary delights such as lingonberry glazed pork belly, bison carpaccio and more.

I started with scrumptious Pueblo chile crab cakes. Later that evening, I ordered room service from Fireside Bar & Grill and received a perfectly cooked bison burger topped with smoked brisket, muenster, onions and smoked paprika aioli. This burger isn’t for a sissy eater.

I didn’t finish all the fries, but I ate the heck out of that burger!

The next morning I found my way to the gym, a must since I’d consumed nearly the entire bison burger the night before.

Photographic proof that I got to the gym!

Next door to the gym was my final destination at Hilton Denver Inverness, the appointment I’d been waiting for with bated breath.

The spa at this property is pretty darn fantastic. If you are getting a treatment, you should check in early and use their outdoor hot tub. I sat in the tub sipping hot ginseng tea as big wet spring snowflakes fell on my head – it was heavenly but not as heavenly as my massage with Barbara.

Barbara is an angel disguised as a massage therapist. Or maybe she’s a magician. Either way, I’d drive to the Denver Tech Center in a snowstorm again, to enjoy another one of her intuitive massages.

After my massage, I ordered lunch from the spa menu – the ultimate luxury – and enjoyed it in the relaxation room.

One of the best variations on a cob salad I have ever eaten. Should I lunch at this spa again, I would order it again.

The spa at Hilton Denver Inverness is the perfect escape. It’s super comfy and inviting, yet luxurious at the same time. It’s the perfect type of place to take mom for Mother’s Day or do a girlfriend’s getaway. I’d love to take my mom the next time she’s in town.
