As a traveler, I am frequently surprised. Thankfully, most are good surprises, as was the case with my stay at Little America Hotel & Resort in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Having ever only seen the truck stop on the outskirts of the property, which is located just off of I25 and I80 in Cheyenne, I had a very different idea of what I was in for with a stay here. My preconceived notions were completely off-base.

One reason that I’d been wrong about Little America is that I knew it was a family-friendly destination and this had led me to picture a Disney-like environment. Instead, I walked into a place that had an upscale Western ambiance. As I entered, the wood-paneled walls felt warm and welcoming. A well-appointed coffee shop beckoned to my right and a gift shop brimming with beautiful Native American jewelry and art tempted me on the left.

The lobby is filled with traditional yet comfortable looking furniture, a ginormous wood-burning fireplace and even a wooden chess set placed between two wingback chairs.

It was all quite elegant, but don’t be fooled, while they have gorgeous conference facilities and host many events, this IS a family-friendly property, although it’s unlikely you’ll have kids running amok underfoot because it’s just not that sort of environment.

The draw for families is the large swimming pool and dozens of nearby attractions that will keep everyone happy from a World Class Children’s Garden at the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens to the Cheyenne Railway Trolley Tours (I wrote about our tour here). Just a few miles from downtown, Little America is just a stone’s throw from these activities as well as the numerous recreational opportunities in the area.

Onsite amenities include a 9-hole executive golf course with clubhouse, fitness center, kids playground and dining at Hathaway’s Restaurant. I enjoyed a burger from Hathaway’s, but diners can indulge in steak and trout dishes. The restaurant features a stunning chandelier and is popular for their lunch buffet and Sunday Brunch. Room service is available.

I was staying at Little America in order to attend the Wyoming Governor’s Hospitality & Tourism Conference, and the hotel’s conference facilities were incredible. The Grand Ballroom is one of the finest I’ve ever been in, again, the chandeliers are a major feature.

Rooms are located in two-story lodges around the park-like property and range from an Executive King to a Deluxe Two Queens. Frequent travelers will find this tidbit refreshing: the pillows at Little America Hotel & Resort in Cheyenne were the best I’d encountered in many years of travel. They were simply fabulous pillows.

This was a hosted stay but all opinions are my own. Thank you to Visit Cheyenne & Little American Hotel & Resort.
