Yes, it’s loud. Yes, it can be a bit stinky. But boy, oh boy, is it fun. I am never so happy than when astride a snowmobile. I’ve only been on a snowmobile a couple of times, but other than jet boating in Grand Junction, there’s very little that’s as exhilarating. Sometimes, I am asked why I like Vail so much. “You seem like a down-to-earth person,” they’ll say. “Why Vail?” That’s because a lot of people associate Vail with a sort of pretension that’s been hard for the destination to shake, and maybe some would rather not. Let’s face it, if you think a place is a certain way, it’s likely that you’ll find it that way when you visit.
