Where to Stay in Leadville, Colorado: Tashi’s Cabin at Buckeye’s Cabins

I get a lot of “where to stay” type questions. If you’d like a dog-friendly, rustic Leadville experiences, Tashi’s Cabin is the place for you. And when I say rustic I do not mean you’ll go without. This is a cabin, with a bathroom, two bedrooms, kitchen and living area. There is even a wood-burning stove. That warms my heart and toes!

We’ve been to Leadville a handful of times and usually stay in town. However, this is very close. It’s just a few minutes out of town on Hwy 91 towards the Top of the Rockies. And, the dog-friendly nature of the property was a big draw for us.

We loaded up Fritzi and were off. As long as she is with her humans, she is a happy camper. Fritzi is used to traveling. Having been to six states (more than some humans) in less than three years, she settles into a new place like a champ. She has an “I guess we live here now” kind of attitude.

Tashi’s Cabin was no exception. After a quick sniff around, she happily went into her open crate for a nap. We take her crate everywhere because she LOVES it.

The cabin is named after the owners’ dog, Tashi.

We didn’t let Fritzi just run around loose outside the cabin, but several times a day, we’d walk her behind the property. There’s an uphill road with a view that’s spectacular, plus, there was lots of room for Fritzi to run. Each evening, she was a tired dog (the best kind).

Every morning, Ryan made coffee and we’d enjoy that lounging on the leather couch. In the evening, we light a fire in the stove. It was a St. Patrick’s Day trip, so on the evening of March 17, after getting back from festivities in town, we cracked open a bottle of Jamison and drank and danced to Irish tunes on Pandora television.

Honestly, it was a trip to remember, and I’m glad we got to do it with the dog in tow. If you need dog-friendly lodging in Leadville, I highly recommend Tashi’s Cabin and so does Fritzi.

Thank you to Visit Leadville for hosting and to Tashi’s Cabin for the hospitality.

  1. What a cute cabin! You know we love Leadville, too. We’ve always stayed in town but like the looks of this.

Fritzi is such a good travel girl. Walden loves camping, but we’ve never taken him to stay anywhere else. We are headed to a cabin in Montana this summer and plan to take him. We’ll have to wear him out with lots of walks, too.
