Riverdance 25th Anniversary Show in Denver: High Kicks & High Notes

In 2001, Ryan and I got engaged at the Fourth Story Restaurant above the Tattered Cover in Cherry Creek. Later in the evening, we attended Riverdance at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. The restaurant is closed, but the dance lives on. Last night, we got to go again, and it was magical.

I hadn’t been downtown to a show in years. In fact, I haven’t really been in downtown Denver for many months. The hustle and bustle of the excited theater-going was invigorating. The fee is $15 for event parking at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts Complex. I highly recommend it for easy access to and from the show.

Walking back to our car after the show took less than five minutes.

I tend to forget how much I love live theater, and this production is worth an outing. Our seats, close to the stage, were particularly great for this show. Blown away by the talent on display, every tap, every muscle ripple, and every bounce of a curl, can be seen from the second row.

Hint: Sit close to the stage to fully appreciate the wonder of Riverdance dancers.

The Riverdance 25th Anniversary Show blends Irish dance with several dance styles, which displays how this show has changed with the times over the years. Of particular note, the Flamenco dancer is mesmerizing. Often on the stage alone, she moves in ways that are both seductive and athletic.

As a lifelong fan of Irish dance, it was odd to see the mix of other dance styles in the show, but the reality is that dance connects us as humans, whether we hail from Ireland, Spain or Brooklyn New York. The show is a symbol of this connection, and a reminder of how lucky we are to have been born in a time and place where all dance is embraced.

By the way, two of the Riverdance dancers hail from right here in Colorado. You can follow Michael and Matthew Gardiner on TikTok. Right now, they are rooting on the Denver Nuggets through dance.

And guess what? Married in 2002, we just celebrated our 21st wedding anniversary. So, if you are thinking of popping the question to your partner, this might be the right show for it!
