Let’s face it, it’s expensive out there. I used to love going to the grocery store, but not anymore. For one thing, it’s always busy now, no matter when I go because apparently, everyone now works from home, and it’s expensive. Seriously, have you looked at the price of Cheez-Its lately? However, we recently discovered a Tuesday date night in Loveland that makes life a little more affordable, and entertaining.

I don’t travel as much as I used to as I’ve mostly stopped freelance writing to concentrate on HeidiTown Consulting. I still write here, and I write The Heidi Guide for Mountain Living, but that’s about it. So, I don’t have as much material to write here on HeidiTown.
Loveland, Colorado: Where Sculpture Takes Shape
So, I came up with an idea. When I discover something great right here in Northern Colorado, or on travels around Denver or to the inlaws in Parker, I’ll share about it here. After all, many of my readers live here in Northern Colorado or the surrounding area, or long to visit Colorado one day.
Back to that date night discovery.

We went out on a Tuesday, yes, a Tuesday. We knew it was cheap movie night at Metropolitan Theaters, and we had yet to see “Gladiator II.” The first “Gladiator” is one of Ryan’s favorite movies. We were going to see if I could think about the Roman Empire for two hours and 28 minutes (the run time of the new Gladiator movie). I knew Ryan could do it; he’d been thinking about the Roman Empire for most of his life. After all, most men do.
We decided to go to Urban Field Pizza & Market before the movie. It’s become our go-to dinner spot in downtown Loveland. We’re obsessed with their square Funghi Pizza ($17.95). We’ve gone quite a few times since they’ve opened, always sitting at their bar where we are waited on by friendly staff. Ironically, we used to sit at this bar when this space was Crow Hop Brewing, but I digress.

The square pizza is the perfect size for us, and we’d planned to get it again on this night, However, Tuesday is $1 wing night at Urban Field. You read that right, One Dollar Wings! You have to order six at a time, but what a deal. I’m old enough to remember a place long gone in downtown Loveland with 25-cent happy hour wings, however, I haven’t seen wings anywhere for $1 in many years.
We ordered wine, two orders of 6, $1 wings, and a side Caesar salad to split (it was Roman Empire night after all). These wings, which I don’t have a photo of because I wasn’t planning to write about this, are outstanding.
I am a bit of a wing snob, not because I hail from Buffalo, I just have a lot of opinions about wings and have had them in quite a few restaurants around town. These are superior wings. Super meaty, and slightly crunchy from being smoked and fried.
After wine and wings, we made our way out the back door of Urban Field which leads to the alleyway to Metrolux Dine-in. We’ve been fans of this downtown movie theater since it opened at the Loveland Foundry in 2019. Their restaurant, Scripted Bar & Kitchen, also has wings. They do a wings and pitcher of beer special on Wednesday ($15) that we still haven’t tried.
Our movie tickets in the Lux seats (which means they recline and are heated) were $13 (for two tickets).

It turns out that I can think about the Roman Empire for two hours and 28 minutes. My one gripe is that I think Denzel Washington is miscast in this movie. I love him, but since he’s always Denzel (in the way Tom Cruise is always Tom Cruise and Tom Hanks is always Tom Hanks), his presence took me out of 200 AD. The movie is good, but not nearly as good as the first one (according to Ryan).
One dollar wings and $6.50 for a movie ticket? Now, that’s a great affordable date night in Loveland, Colorado.
