15 Years of HeidiTown (1)

Life before 2020 is still a little blurry, but thanks to Linkedin anniversary reminders, I know that HeidiTown turned 15 this month. A lot has changed in 15 years. The face of travel and the festival industry has transformed significantly, especially over the last couple of years. I’ve witnessed a lot, and while Colorado has been on a continual upswing when it comes to festivals and travel, a World Wide

Want to taste the best of the best Colorado wine? Get tickets to Colorado Uncorked at History Colorado on November 4, 2022. I got a sneak peek (or should I write, “sneak taste”) of the Colorado wines that were chosen to be in this collection of 12 wines. An esteemed 19-person panel made up of sommeliers, chefs, writers and wine experts from across the country picked these wines from 270

Why Pueblo, Colorado Beer & Steak. HeidiTown (6)

Here’s the truth. When we tell people we’re going to Pueblo, there is often a short look of confusion followed by the word why. That’s changing, especially among my friends who’ve been listening to me champion Pueblo for the past several years. Pueblo isn’t fancy and doesn’t end up on “best of” lists in trendy travel magazines. However, it is a town full of gems and, to use a cliche,

Downtown Beer Week, HeidiTown (101)

NOTE: This post will continually be updated as more Downtown Beer Week information is revealed. Keep checking in! Beer isn’t just a drink—it means a lot more to many of us—playing a big part in the story of our lives. For instance, during my college days, in the late 1990s, a lot of hours were spent with friends at Boundary Bay Brewing in Bellingham, Washington. As brewery lovers, Ryan and

October 10, 2022: Tickets for the feast are officially SOLD OUT. It is time—time to eat with your hands and a knife, dress in furs and embrace your inner barbarian. Since 2017, the Barbarian Feast, a beer dinner like no other, is a hot ticket, selling out each year. I am married to the man (Ryan Schlaefer) who thought up the Barbarian Feast. It had been in his mind for

If you’ve been a citizen of HeidiTown for any length of time, you know that I love dogs. There is something about a dog that brings out the best in me, in fact, all animals have a positive effect on me, but especially dogs.  I believe that we have a responsibility to ensure the best life for dogs. However, the mass breeding industry that produces puppies at a startling rate

Playing Favorites The North Fork Valley of Colorado. HeidiTown (18)

I get asked a lot about my favorite destination in Colorado. That is a really difficult question. I tend to fall in love with every place I visit. However, if I had to come up with a true favorite it would be a toss up between the San Luis Valley and the North Fork Valley. Both have been the destinations of wedding anniversaries including our most recent 20th anniversary. We

Musings by a Road Trip Addict Why Do We Travel HeidiTown.com

I watch a lot of travel shows and follow a lot of travel writers, travel bloggers and travel influencers on social media. It seems like people travel for a lot of serious reasons. They want to expand their minds, explore new cultures, and learn about the world. These are all noble reasons to travel. However, no one ever says, “I want to travel because it’s fun.” And the truth is,

Dust Bowl Road Trip Volcanos, Wind & Folsom, Not the Prison. HeidiTown (15)

We set out on this road trip inspired by the book, “The Worst Hard Times.” I discuss the reasons why we took this trip in this post. While we experienced a flat tire and needed a license to drink in one Texas restaurant, and saw some real-life pains that the pandemic has wreaked in one small town, this wasn’t an experience I’d trade for anything. This is the last of

Ticket Giveaway, 4 concerts, Rialto Theater, Loveland, Colorado

This summer, Rialto Theater, Loveland’s 102 year old, downtown jewel, will present the Trailhead Sessions. This will be a new series of four concerts featuring soulful harmonies, toe tapping blues and throw back vibes. By the way, Rialto Theater is one reason we live in Loveland. When we first drove through, we were so pleased to see an historic theater still open in downtown. When Rialto Theater staff asked me
