Greeley Blues Jam 2011

I never cease to be amazed at the sheer amount of quality live music available in Northern Colorado. Music festivals happen here year round from Fort Collins to Greeley. On June 10, one of Colorado’s most anticipated music events will kick off. The Greeley Blues Jam is a nationally recognized blues festival held every year at Island Grove Arena in Greeley, Colorado. The Greeley Chamber of Commerce and the City

Irish Festival 2008

St. Patrick’s Day seemed the appropriate time to post my article about the Rocky Mountain Irish Festival. As you know, the Mayor likes all things Irish and she likes Irish festivals most of all. And as you can see by the adjacent photo, Leprechauns like me. By the way, being kissed by a Leprechaun gives you good luck for life, so obviously I am good to go! I attended the

Ski Jump at Denver Big Air Event in 2011

I wanted to share these amazing pictures with you. My friend Chase Squires took these photos of the ski ramp that was constructed for the Denver Big Air Event that’s happening today and tomorrow in downtown Denver. These photos show the scale of this gigantic construction project. This ramp stands 106 feet tall and is located in Civic Park. It is part of the Nature Valley Big Air Challenge, an

Oatmeal Festival in Lafayette, Colorado (Jan. 8, 2011)

I have no idea why Lafayette, Colorado celebrates oatmeal, maybe by next year’s festival I’ll have gotten to the bottom of that bowl, I mean mystery. The celebration includes a 5K run, followed by oatmeal and pancake eating, followed by an oatmeal baking competition and a health fair. Here’s video of last year’s event: Lafayette Oatmeal Festival 2010, Big Black Lab Video, Inc. You’ll have to click on the link

An Ice Sculpture at Sculpture in the Dark in Loveland, Colorado 2

The 2011 Snow Sculpture in the Dark in Loveland, Colorado will run December 5-10.  An updated blog about the event will be posted on Nov. 18.  In the meantime, go  here for details. While at downtown Loveland’s Winter Walk today I came across some ice sculptures in the making. Witnessing art being made is fascinating to me, especially since I have a hard time drawing stick figures, so of course

The still in Dancing Pines Distillery in Loveland, Colorado

Colorado is already known for beer, but the craft distillery business is making their mark in the rocky mountain state. Colorado is fourth in number of distilleries around the country, falling behind California, Michigan and Oregon. Nationally the number of distilleries is around 150, and is growing by 20% every year. While distilling liquor may make you think of moonshine, bootleggers and prohibition, today, distilling liquor is a true artisan

Dancing Pines Distillery bottles and labels

Today’s HeidiTown contest is courtesy of Dancing Pines Distillery. This brand new distillery in Loveland is giving away two tickets to Fall Harvest Brewfest, the annual fundraiser for Animal House Rescue in Fort Collins. Fall Harvest Brewfest is a celebration of good drink from local breweries and Dancing Pines Distillery. It will raise much-needed funds for Animal House, one of only two non-kill shelters in Northern Colorado. The event is

Grove of Aspen Trees in Colorado

As most of my loyal readers know HeidiTown is not a calendar of events. It is impossible for me to preview every event going on in Northern Colorado (let alone state wide). If only I could clone myself! I’ve decided to compile a list, every Friday morning, of all the  upcoming weekend events I was unable to preview, but would have liked to preview. Fall in Colorado is fabulous and

Oktoberfest celebration in Colorado mug of beer

September is in full swing and so are Colorado Oktoberfest celebrations. Some have already occurred, but here are a few festivals where you can practice your chicken dance and drink beer from a giant mug. Don’t forget the lederhosen! Oktoberfest Denver, September 17-19 and 24-26: This will be the 41st year for this Oktoberfest that was named one of the best festivals in the nation by USA Today. It also
