I started the HeidiTown Gives Back Campaign exactly one year ago. I wanted to highlight some great Colorado charities by giving them one month of free ad space on HeidiTown.com, plus a blog post about the charity. I was inspired to do this in part, because I get asked to promote so many nonprofit events during the year. I can’t help them all, so I developed this program  as a

I’ve been a fan of dog sled racing since I was just a little girl. Growing up in the far northern reaches of Washington State – let’s face it, it was practically Canada – there were quite a few Alaska connections around my community. This meant that throughout my childhood I had roundabout connections to the Iditerod, and therefore I never missed the race on television. Since moving to

1st zip at Top of the Rockies HeidiTown.com

On our trip to Breckenridge for  Ullr Festival earlier this month, Ryan and I were invited to go ziplining at Top of the Rockies Zip Line. Up until this point my one zipline experience involved zipping across the small lake at the village in Copper, so the thought of a fast, long zip was exhilarating and rather frightening. We took the free shuttle from Breckenridge along with a group of

It’s time for another HeidiTown segment on KRFC 88.9 FM. As a reminder, I’ve decided to cut down on these radio shows because I create entirely new content for each segment and it’s too much  to keep up with on a weekly basis. So, the HeidiTown show can be heard now twice a month on the radio. This week’s show includes a preview of a couple upcoming winter carnivals and

This week’s radio segment is a little embarrassing. My voice is so husky that I sound like my other job might be at one of those late night phone chat establishments. The truth is that last week I was knocked on my butt with a terrible head cold/flu thing that I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. Anyway, I’m just about back to normal, whatever normal is, and you should

It’s time for another segment of the HeidiTown show on KRFC 88.9 FM. It’s already been an amazing year here at HeidiTown, and it’s only been a few weeks! On this week’s show, I do a little housekeeping. There are some changes on the horizon for the HeidiTown show, so listen to find out what’s in store. Also, I preview some of my upcoming trips to Grand County this winter.

Enjoying the 2013 Estes Park Winter Festival with a famous friend.

Four years ago, Ryan and I decided to go snowshoeing in Rocky Mountain National Park, and afterwards we stopped in Estes Park and stumbled into what has become one of our favorite winter festivals. At that time the Estes Park Winter Festival was a small affair, a lot of local cooks serving up chili and just a few beer and wine vendors, but what fun we had. We tasted every

After a week off, it’s time for another installment of the Mayor on KRFC 88.9 FM, community public radio in Fort Collins, Colorado. Starting in February, these shows will occur on the 1st and 3rd week of each month. Life is just getting too crazy to do a show each and every week. Remember, if you’d like to catch the show on the radio, I’m on at 5:55 p.m. on

The Rush Casino & Hotel by HeidiTown

While in Cripple Creek I was incarcerated and lost some money, but I’d still go back. We arrived in Cripple Creek on a cloudy Friday afternoon. I had been invited to be a guest at the brand new Rush Casino, formerly the Gold Rush. The building had been shuttered for three years before the new owners bought it, renovated the place and opened in August 2012. I had never been

My Handle Bar Ride March 2012 HeidiTown.com

It has been an AMAZING year here in HeidiTown… and 2013 is going to be even better. I have so many great memories from this past year, like emceeing a freezing/cold/snowy  Berthoud Oktoberfest, attending the Great American Beer Festival for the first time and speaking multiple times at Metropolitan State University. There were some real standout moments however, so without further ado, here are my Top 10 Memories from the
