I’m featuring TEDxFrontRange on HeidiTown again this year, and while it isn’t a festival, it fits the spirit of HeidiTown. If you are unfamiliar with TEDx, it’s an afternoon of enlightenment through short presentations by a variety of folks.
TEDx originated from TED, founded in 1984, by Richard Saul Wurman. He saw a powerful convergence between Technology, Entertainment and Design happening in the world. The event brings together movers and shakers; individuals who have done amazing things or simple things that have had amazing results.
Speakers take the stage for up to 18 minutes. There are two annual TED conferences, with one occurring in the United States and the other in Edinburgh, Scotland. Speakers have included movie directors, software developers, founders of various nonprofit organizations and so many more.
A TEDx is an independently organized TED event, and hundreds now take place across the world, including here in Colorado.
TEDxFrontRange is held at the Rialto Theater in the heart of downtown Loveland, a community that has embraced the event from the beginning. This year’s speakers are artists, activists, entrepreneurs, musicians, chefs, educators, founders of nonprofits and more. These speakers don’t just talk, many perform.
TEDx is an opportunity to be inspired, challenged and educated. The mission of TED is summed up in the phrase, “Ideas Worth Spreading,” so I encourage you to come to this TEDx event with your thinking cap on and your mind open. There are breaks throughout the day to allow for conversation among the attendees.
TEDxFrontRange takes place on Thursday, May 22, 2014, from 12 to 6 p.m.
