What to do & where to do it, this weekend in Colorado (Nov. 5-7, 2010)

The weather along Colorado’s Front Range is predicted to be more spring-like than fall-like this weekend. With temps in the mid-70s, it will be a great weekend to stroll the streets of Denver or take the family on a bike ride in the foothills. Whatever you do, I recommend getting outside!

From soccer to art, there’s a lot going on this weekend. As a reminder HeidiTown is not a calendar of events, it’s merely a list of events that caught the Mayor’s interest.

Denver Arts Week starts today, and over the next nine days Coloradoans have the chance to immerse themselves in art and culture. This is the fourth annual Denver Arts Week and it will include over 200 events, and to kick off the event, today there are art walks in eight Denver neighborhoods. For all the events and other information visit  www.denver.org.

To celebrate Denver Arts Week, 15 area museums will be open and FREE to the public from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday evening, including the art museum, the museum of nature and science and the botanical gardens. Visit  www.denver.org/DenverArtsWeek to find a list of participating museums.

HeidiTown Tip: Many of the events during Denver Arts Week will be charging admission, but you can find two-for-one tickets at www.denver.org.

And speaking of art, both Fort Collins and Niwot have 1st Friday Art Walks tonight.

Loveland, CO – Light the Wick

Saturday, 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Rialto Theater

$10

Get in the mood for ski season with this film by Teton Gravity Research. The film uses HD and 3D techniques to provide breathtaking views of thrill seekers who ski some of the most dangerous peaks in the world. Ski might not be the right word for what these do, because most of us rely on chairlifts, not helicopters to get us up the mountain. Learn more about “Light the Wick” at www.tetongravity.com.

Denver, CO – Veterans Day Parade

Saturday, 10 to 12 p.m. at Civic Center Park

Centennial, CO – 2nd Annual Colorado Cheese Festival

Saturday and Sunday, 10 to 3 p.m. at Embassy Suites Hotel Denver Tech Center

This festival caught my eye because I love cheese!   If you love cheese this is the place to be on Saturday. Patrons can taste over 100 different kinds of cheese, watch a mozzarella making demonstration, and a grilled cheese challenge. Beer and wine are also available. Visit www.cocheesefest.com for more cheesy info.

Colorado Springs, CO – All Colorado Beer Festival

Saturday, at Mr. Biggs Event Center

www.allcoloradobeer.org

Event raising money for the Empty Stocking Fund

If you love beer and live in Colorado it seems that you can attend a beer festival nearly every weekend year-round, and here’s another one. The event features 70 beers from 30 brewers and claims to be the 2nd largest beer festival in Colorado, behind the Great American Beer Festival.

Denver, CO – It’s the MLS Playoffs!

Colorado Rapids v. Columbus Crew

Various pubs around Denver

Saturday, 2 p.m.

If you’ve been reading this blog for any length of time you already know that I love soccer. In fact, my husband and I are fanatical about the sport. Our team, the Colorado Rapids have reached the playoffs! They won their first playoff match against the Columbus Crew last week in Colorado, and now they will meet them again in Columbus.

There will be viewing parties around Denver and I’ve heard there might be one planned in Fort Collins (probably at CB & Potts). If you’d like to watch the match visit the Colorado Rapids’ Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/ColoradoRapids to find out where to support the team.

Go Rapids!!!
