I’m not a girlie girl. I can count on one hand the number of manicures I’ve gotten over the course of my 40-year-life, however, I’m no stranger to spa life. I adore the aroma, the hot tea, the cozy robes, the steam room and sauna… did I mention the aroma?
When I told my mom that I needed a distraction during eye surgery recovery, she jumped on a plane and flew from Oregon to Colorado. During her visit, I decided to treat her to an overnight stay and spa getaway at The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa at Beaver Creek Mountain. As a late birthday present for my mom, I booked treatments for us at Spa Anjali.
The Westin Riverfront property is located in Avon, just a few minutes west of Vail, at the base of Beaver Creek Mountain. It’s a ski-in/ski-out property, but it’s also popular with summertime guests who enjoy all the recreational activities offered in the area and the outdoor pool area which made The Heidi Guide’s “4 Mountain Resort Pools to Help You Beat the Heat” on MountainLiving.com.
I was introduced to the property last year and fell in love with both the resort and the spa. If you’re looking for that all-inclusive resort experience in Colorado, this is the place. With a spa, pool, fitness center, several restaurants, coffee shop and multiple bars, once you’ve arrived at The Westin there’s no reason to leave.
In my work as a freelance writer, I’ve had the opportunity to experience many luxurious spas across Colorado, and the main reason I think Spa Anjali is tops is that no small touch has been overlooked, yet there’s no pretension here. The Asian design influences combine with Colorado comfort is a winning combination for guests seeking rest and relaxation during their spa getaway.
Spa Anjali offers a number of “Spa Journeys,” and I took the Rocky Mountain Journey, enjoying a Ponderosa Pine Therapy session with Molly. This incredible, 75-minute massage includes the use of a poultice filled with sage, pine and lavender. Before each part of my body was massaged, Molly gently rolled the poultice over my skin in order to release the benefits of these locally gathered organic ingredients.
It was heavenly.
My mom, who is a fan of facials and treats herself semi-regularly, indulged in the Spa Anjali Facial that utilizes organic fruit masks and natural exfoliation. She gave the experience a 10 out of 10. She was tickled pink that the staff brought her a mimosa while she waited for me to finish my treatment.
After our treatments we were sumptuously lazy; we enjoyed drinks and a snack on the pool patio at Laps, and later, my mom enjoyed a swim in the pool while I had a glass of wine on the patio at Maya. That evening we enjoyed an exquisite dinner at Maya, a Richard Sandoval restaurant. Blue crab and shrimp enchiladas for me and zucchini flower masa quesadillas for my vegetarian mother.
I’m a huge fan of Sandoval eateries and this one is no exception. The food is elegant without breaking the bank.
We were in bed by 9:30 p.m. and slept the sleep of the well pampered.
The next morning I rose early to partake in one of my favorite resort activities — coffee and a hot tub soak.
To say that our spa getaway at The Westin Riverfront was a success is an understatement. It was just what the doctor ordered.
