An Escape & Taco Celebration in Steamboat Springs, Colorado

I have a long relationship with Steamboat Springs. In fact, one of my best friends moved there more than a decade ago, so it has always been a place I’ve visited. However, with the craziness of life and HeidiTown, it had been three years since my last visit, so when we finally spent the weekend there in June, we were way overdue.

I haven’t had the best experience at escape rooms, however, I decided to try The Crooked Key, one of Steamboat’s newest attractions. It is an escape room but Ryan and I were booked on an outside game they’ve developed called Keys to the City: S.K.I.

My skepticism waned as we checked into this downtown Steamboat attraction and Ryan donned the huge “Keys to the City” backpack. The backpack is heavy and covered in locks. Intriguing.

Let’s just say that escape room style games out of doors are my thing. Breathlessly we raced around downtown Steamboat deciphering clues and it was fun. At the point when my enthusiasm began to dwindle because of the summer heat, we learned via the game, that Lyon’s Drug & Soda Fountain has $1 ice cream cones. Like I wrote above, I’ve been coming to Steamboat Springs for years and this is a fact I did not know.

Cold ice cream was just the thing to get my head back in the game and after chocolate chip mint in a cup, we were off again.

We did not solve this puzzle in record time but we did solve it and I would recommend this outing to everyone (those who think they know “the Boat” and those who do not know Steamboat). It’s a great way to spend an afternoon and you’ll get to know the city better or for the first time.

To celebrate our success, we headed to Salt & Lime where we put our names on the list for a table on the roof and waited at the Burrito Bar next door. This place is part of Salt & Lime and is an outdoor bar where you can order some foodstuff and/or drinks.

Salt & Lime is located in The Rio building, a restaurant many of us remember from older Steamboat days. Today, the rooftop is the perfect place to relax with a cold drink and tacos. The shrimp BLT taco isn’t very authentic but it is so good. Honestly, I can think of no better way to end a Steamboat day.
