Oatmeal Festival in Lafayette, Colorado (Jan. 8, 2011)

I have no idea why Lafayette, Colorado celebrates oatmeal, maybe by next year’s festival I’ll have gotten to the bottom of that bowl, I mean mystery. The celebration includes a 5K run, followed by oatmeal and pancake eating, followed by an oatmeal baking competition and a health fair. Here’s video of last year’s event: Lafayette Oatmeal Festival 2010, Big Black Lab Video, Inc. You’ll have to click on the link

Winter Trails at Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado

I recently met a couple from Switzerland who said that Estes Park, Colorado reminded them of their home country. Estes Park is a charming little town nestled among snow-capped peaks and I can think of no better place for a Winter festival. The 2nd Annual Estes Park Winter Festival is a four-day extravaganza, has everything a winter festival should have and more. The event kicks off on Friday evening with

The still in Dancing Pines Distillery in Loveland, Colorado

Colorado is already known for beer, but the craft distillery business is making their mark in the rocky mountain state. Colorado is fourth in number of distilleries around the country, falling behind California, Michigan and Oregon. Nationally the number of distilleries is around 150, and is growing by 20% every year. While distilling liquor may make you think of moonshine, bootleggers and prohibition, today, distilling liquor is a true artisan

First Annual Northern Colorado Bluegrass Festival in LaPorte, Colorado Buckvillians

This event caught my eye because bluegrass music is always a good time and at $10, ticket prices are just right. This weekend Laporte, Colorado will be alive with the sound of the fiddle, banjo and guitar. It’s the First Annual Northern Colorado Bluegrass Festival to be held on Sunday, September 5 at Bar Double-S. Laporte is just six miles northwest of Fort Collins on Old US-287. Bar  Double-S is

Brazil Fest in Fort Collins, Colorado

Here’s a little secret, the Mayor loves anything Latin  – food, music, siestas, beer, dance   –  especially the dancing. So when I heard about Brazil Fest in Fort Collins I had to give this little fiesta a HeidiTown shout out. Rodizio Grill is presenting this free, one-day event to benefit Americas Wyoming Chapter Breast Cancer project. The project is raising money for a mobile mammography unit and a portion
