We did it. We got a puppy. Because we are crazy.
Seriously, I like to say the Universe makes puppies cute so that we don’t kill them. It’s probably not a politically correct thing to say but let’s face it, it’s true.
It’s been 16 years since I’ve had a puppy. Xena, HeidiTown’s first Head of Security, passed away on August 24, 2018, at the ripe old age of 15 1/2. Losing her was difficult as she’d been with us since she was 8 weeks old.
However, I knew that a dog was part of our future. It’s not possible to be a dog-person without a dog (at least not for me). We picked Fritzi up on Friday.
To my chagrin, I found myself googling “how to potty train a puppy” last week because even when you’ve had a dog, this stuff doesn’t stay with you.
Today, Fritzi is 15-weeks-old. I expect her to play a large role here at HeidiTown and you can expect to see her with us on some trips during the year.
I am excited to be able to take her to the many dog-friendly hotels and resorts around Colorado and beyond. I am grateful that hotels have become friendly to all dogs, not just little dogs. For years, if a dog was more than 4o pounds, it wasn’t allowed to stay in most hotels. For the most part, that has changed.
I have stayed at big dog-friendly hotels from Vail to Telluride. I am truly glad that these properties have realized that big dogs are part of life in Colorado.
So welcome to HeidiTown, Fritzi! We are happy to have you even if you are exhausting. And HeidiTown now has Head of Security again. She may be all ears and paws now, but soon she will be worthy of the title.
As always, thanks for coming along on this ride with us! I couldn’t do it without you.
Fritzi hails from Vom Springer German Shepherds in Ogallala, Nebraska.
