Heidi on Pikes Peak March 2014

Dear Citizens, I apologize in advance that this post is not about Colorado travel or a Colorado festival, but I felt it must be written in order to let everyone know what the heck is going on and why the Mayor is being so unusually quiet. It’s going to be a ghost town around here for the next five days or more. This was 100% unplanned. In fact, I’m supposed

When they hear the words “bed and breakfast” most people imagine lace curtains, tea cups and quilted bedspreads. While Victorian or Country is the motif at many B&Bs, you’ll not find it at Pikes Peak Paradise Bed and Breakfast. This is a modern B&B with one of the best views in the Rocky Mountains you’ll find in Colorado. This past weekend I was on a magazine assignment in Canon City.

I am very excited to feature the  24th  Annual Taste of Vail  today. Last month I got to sit down with Chef Paul Ferzacca, owner of  La Tour Restaurant & Bar in Vail. Chef Ferzacca is also deeply involved with the production of Taste of Vail, and his passion for this event is palpable. After our sit down, I was more excited than ever to attend this event in April.

HeidiTown Gives Back: Pets Forever

In my work as a freelance writer I occasionally get the opportunity to learn about various nonprofits around Colorado, and in fact, that’s how I discover many of the charities that end up as the recipient of HeidiTown Gives Back. This is what happened with Pets Forever. While working on an article about the positive emotional and physical impacts pets can have on our lives, I met Dr. Lori Kogan,

9 to 5 press picture Candlelight Dinner Playhouse

Who could forget Dolly Parton, Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda in the 1980 woman empowerment movie, “Nine to Five,” the memorable film about three fed-up coworkers who kidnap their chauvinistic boss and turn around the office in his absence? We saw the stage play at Candlelight Dinner Playhouse last week, and while they have big shoes, and in one case, a big bra to fill, the three lead actresses in

Featured Festival: Great Plates, Fort Collins, Colorado

Good food for a great price with proceeds going to a worthy cause, that’s what Great Plates is all about. The two-week long culinary event features 30 plus restaurants and raises money for the Food Bank of Larimer County – a substantial amount of money. Last year’s event raised $35,000 and the organizers hope to beat that amount by raising $40,000 this year. It works like this, the participating restaurants

Mt. Princeton Hot Springs Resort VIP Pool. HeidiTown.com

I was recently contacted via email by a woman from Arkansas who is planning a trip to Colorado this July. She wanted to know about some off-the-beaten path locations that would be ideal for a multi-generational family trip that included ages ranging from 6 to 60. I gave her four recommendations, including Grand Lake and Glenwood Springs, two destinations I’ve written extensively about here on HeidiTown. However, there were two

Barney Ford Museum in Breckenridge, Colorado. HeidiTown.com

February is Black History Month, so I thought this was the perfect opportunity to write about the Barney Ford Museum in Breckenridge, Colorado. The story behind this charming house museum is like something straight out of Hollywood, and a story you probably wouldn’t normally associate with a mining town in Colorado. Barney L. Ford was born into slavery in 1822. His father, who never recognized Barney as a son, was

Featured Festival: Loveland Snow Sculpture in the Dark, 2014

I’ve been attending and writing about Snow Sculpture in the Dark since it’s conception in 2010. A grassroots event, it has grown into a sanction snow sculpting competition where the winners go on to represent the State of Colorado at the U.S. National Snow Sculpting Championships. It’s a pretty darn big deal, and the artists who participate take it very seriously. Loveland Snow Sculpture in the Dark This is as
