Fall Colors in the Rockies "“ get out of the car and get on the trail

Every year at this time, the news stations around Denver start urging people to go on drive to look at the colors changing. They post picture after picture, exactly like the one above, showing people who don’t go on a drive just what they are missing. After all, I’ve seen both and Colorado’s fall rivals the famed fall-color changes in New England. What is the purpose of a drive? I

Mad Brad & his Trailer Trash Troubadours - CD release party

I am writing an article about this band for the newspaper. During our interview today I discovered their CD release party is this weekend, so I decided to give them a plug here on HeidiTown. Mad Brad & his Trailer Trash Troubadours is a country/bluegrass band with what guitarist, lead vocalist and writer Brad Handley calls an “eclectic” sound. The CD is called “Everything  u no iz Rong.”  My favorite

Um...that's weird

Have the owners of the  Reader’s Cove, a Ft. Collins, Colorado bookstore, been drinking a little too much Captain Morgans? I recently received an email from the store outlining upcoming events.  This Saturday,  September 19th, the store is celebrating  “Talk Like a Pirate Day.”  And guess what, after a little research I discovered  September 19th  really is International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Honestly, I can’t make this stuff up.

HeidiTown favorites - Patrick Swayze

Patrick Swayze passed away yesterday from pancreatic cancer. He was 57. This is sad news. Swayze was one of those celebrities I really, truly liked. He seemed genuine and had been married to the same woman for over thirty years, an amazing and commendable feat in Hollywood. He was gifted in so many areas – singing, dancing, writing, acting, and the eighties and nineties wouldn’t have been the same without

Major chain now offers free wi-fi

Barnes & Noble now offers free wi-fi, and it’s about time.   Many smaller coffee shops and bookstores beat B&N to the punch, but the  world’s largest  bookseller has finally come to their senses.   Free wi-fi is now available at all their stores. I go to the B&N at The Promenade Shops  in Loveland, and  one issue  I have with the place are the unhappy workers.  It’s service with

HeidiTown Rant: Leave your screaming kids at home

It’s another HeidiTown rant, and it’s about time.  A year and a half  has past  since  I wrote a rant, about cell phones in theaters. Today it’s kids and babies in theaters, though the cell phone problem hasn’t gotten any better. I’m not talking about children at cartoon movies. I’m talking about kids at the movies I go to – primarily PG13 or R movies with adult themes. I cannot

Bye bye summer, hello football, film & survivor

I’m a little sad to see summer on the way out, but there are two great things about fall. Well, three actually. 1. Football 2. Movies 3. Survivor (yes, I still watch it) Yes, the fall movie line up is here and this means the summer blockbuster will be replaced by more thoughtful story lines, better acting and more movies made for an adult audience.   This summer wasn’t a

Confused by "9" - a movie review

Rated PG13 Directed by Shane Acker Produced by Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov Starring Elijah Wood, John C. Riley, Jennifer Connelly, Crispin Glover, Martin Landau and Christopher Plummer Heidi’s Illustrious Rating: 2.5/5 Word of Warning: This film is not for children. A few selfish parents brought their little ones (3 to 9-yr-olds) with them to this movie and the kids alternated between scared and bored – just peachy for

HeidiTown seeking book reviewers

HeidiTown is looking for fiction and non-fiction reviews, and  we  love  new reviews of old classics.    However,  HeidiTown would also  like to find someone  willing to  review local Colorado writers. Reviews may be no longer than 700 words in length. If you are interested, please contact the Mayor at heiditownblog@yahoo.com.
