A Look Back: The Mayor’s favorite blog posts of 2010

In the Spring of 2010, the format of HeidiTown changed. Instead of concentrating on movies, theater, books and the occasional restaurant review, I turned all my focus to events and festivals around Colorado.

I love this new format and it seems to be a real hit with my readers. In the upcoming year there will be more changes in store. With the help of a NoCo web designer extraordinaire I’m going to make HeidiTown easier to navigate and might even add in some interactive maps. Stay tuned!

Without further adieu, here are my picks for the Mayor’s favorite blog posts of 2010.

Tasty times at the Foothills Wine & Food Experience (5th Annual

Taste of Loveland, CO), posted on April 25, 2010

With over 30 area restaurants in attendance, as well as a large number of local breweries and wine distributors, this event was a highlight of our 2010. My husband was a kid in a candy shop, trying a sip of every beer available (and there were lots) and chatting with the brewers. We ate and drank our way through a truly awesome evening and are looking forward to   6th Annual Taste of Loveland in 2011.

Rogue Ales with Mom (& Mom), posted Feb. 11, 2010

As my regular readers know, I don’t always stay close to home. While visiting my folks in Oregon, my mom and I decided to have lunch at Rogue Ales in Newport. It turns out this brewery now houses a distillery which made this adventure even more exciting. The Mayor loves to travel, so look for more of these types of posts in 2011.

Crossed Wires, posted April 21, 2010

Small Town? Meet technology. Occasionally my readers are subjected to little life experiences that amuse me and this was one of the most hilarious of the year.

Colorado Renaissance Festival – the Mayor’s pick for the best festival in Colorado, posted May 23, 2010

This post was one of the most-read blog posts on HeidiTown this year. I think this is because the Renaissance Faire has been around for such a long time that the media at large doesn’t bother writing about it anymore.

Sadly, we didn’t make it this year. First time we’ve missed it in a decade!

Where to watch World Cup in Northern Colorado, posted June 9, 2010

This post received over 300 hits in just 24 hours, breaking a record here at HeidiTown and reassuring the Mayor that she’s not the only soccer fan in NoCo.

A gnarly HeidiTown contest! Win 2 free ticketsto the Gnarly Barley Brew Festival in Loveland, Colorado, posted July 27, 2010

Perhaps not surprisingly the article linked to this post generated the greatest number of comments ever received on a single post at HeidiTown, affirming once again that Coloradoans really, really love beer.

A Festival of Asses, posted July 27, 2010

After attending this year’s Burro Days in Fairplay, this festival may have surpassed the Renaissance Faire as the Mayor’s favorite Colorado festival.

Road Trippin’, Deadwood, South Dakota, posted July 14, 2010

Watch for more Road Trippin’ articles in 2011.

Calling all Lefties! (Niwot’s First Annual Left-Hander Day Celebration), posted August 10, 2010

When I explain to people what HeidiTown is all about inevitable I mention this festival. A weekend dedicated to left-handed people is just the kind of unique festival I love to write about. Way to go Niwot!

Impressed with the Kress, posted August 5, 2010

I am absolutely giddy when I discover something as awesome as The Kress Cinema & Lounge in Greeley, and I am lucky to have an venue like HeidiTown where I can share these discoveries.

Prost! It’s time for über fun! posted September 14, 2010

A place called HeidiTown would be remiss if it didn’t embrace Oktoberfest, and the Mayor most certainly does. Who knew Colorado was such a great place for these beer drinking, brat eating festivals of fun?

Where to SCREAM this Halloween in Colorado, posted October 4, 2010

Okay, I mostly like this post because the title rhymes and it got a ton of hits. I may be the world’s biggest wimp when it comes to haunted houses, but apparently my readers LOVE them!

The Mayor visits a museum in Berthoud, Colorado, posted Nov. 9, 2010

This post introduced my readers to a new series here on HeidiTown called The Mayor Visits   A Musuem! I look forward to continuing to share my love of museums with my readers in 2011.

Top 5 Christmas gifts, according to the Mayor, posted December 20, 2010

I loved writing this post because I was able to share some gift ideas that I think are top-notch and fit in nicely with my theme here on HeidiTown, and WOW, “top 5” lists are popular. This post received a rush of traffic in the week before Christmas.
