Win VIP tickets to Fall Harvest Brewfest

I haven’t done a giveaway for a very long time, but when Fall Harvest Brewfest approached me this year, I decided it was time. Fall Harvest Brewfest is the annual fundraiser for Animal House Shelter in Fort Collins, Colorado – and if you’ve been following HeidiTown for any length of time, you know that I have a soft spot for animal rescue organizations. Please note that Animal House is entirely

The Springs Resort in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. HeidiTown.com

Until this past July, Pagosa Springs was just a town I’d driven through on my way to other places, and I’m not the only one. Lots of people drive right through this tiny town without realizing the unique experiences they are passing up. We were in town to attend the Pagosa Springs Renaissance & Pirate Festival, but to fill in the rest of the trip we soaked and soaked and

During the summer of 2011, I was approached by the director of KRFC 88.9 FM, Brian Hughes, about doing a community segment. This month marks two-years of the HeidiTown segment on 88.9 FM, Fort Collins public radio. Being on public radio has limitations for someone who writes and talks about festivals. For instance, I can’t tell the audience the price of a ticket, and may not even say whether the

Mayor’s Note: This is the final installment of my three-part series on Winter Park, Colorado in the summer. Catch up by reading part one and part two. Once we got our bloody Mary fix, and had given ourselves the high elevation thrill of riding up and down the Zephyr chairlift, we were ready for some food and wine. To prepare for an afternoon of drinking we started with a big

As I was thinking about which charity to highlight this month, I decided to contact my fellow blogger and dog lover friend, Chrissy Morin from Parker. She has been very active in helping out animal charities and pet owners via social media during and after the Black Forest Fire near Colorado Springs. As I expected, Chrissy quickly put me in contact with Colorado Springs Lost Pet Alert. The lady who

The Samples band poster

One of Northern Colorado’s biggest festivals is just around the corner and the best part? It’s entirely free. This event includes more than 70 Colorado bands and three national headlining acts on six stages. In total there are eight stages this year and 120 performances by talented Coloradans.   In addition there are 250 arts, crafts and food booths. Fort Collins, Colorado truly comes alive during the three days of

Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, I was surrounded by Native American history. Therefore, it was sort of “old hat.” I knew a lot about Native Americans in the area because school presentations and museums were filled with this information, but I wasn’t innately interested. It was so common that it didn’t feel very exotic. It wasn’t until recently, that I became more intrigued by the Native American story –

Mayor’s Note: This is Part 2 of a three-part series on Winter Park in the Summer. Catch up on part one here. On day two of our girlfriend getaway to Winter Park we woke up slowly, made coffee and ate a little breakfast in our room. Today was all about exploring the village and attending The Village Uncorked and checking out the SolShine Music Festival, but first, we were determined

Crestone Music Festival Photo by Lori Nagel of Sunflower Studios

With a population of 150 souls, Crestone, Colorado is more of a village than a town. In the shadow of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, far from any metropolitan area, it really is a hidden gem. Each year in August, however, the tiny town fills to the brim with excited festival goers. The Crestone Music Festival is in its 15th year, and this event is much more than just a
